Abstract

Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) remains a major concern in radiology, particularly among patients with comorbidities requiring specialty medications. This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of pharmacist-managed contrast administration protocols in 250 patients undergoing CT and MRI. Pharmacists reviewed renal function, adjusted contrast dose, and recommended pre- and post-procedure hydration strategies. Implementation of pharmacist-led protocols reduced CIN incidence from 8% to 2%, shortened hospital stay by 0.8 days per patient, and decreased overall imaging costs by 15%. These findings highlight the economic and clinical advantages of specialty pharmacy involvement in radiology.
